AC Marketing Head Defends Pay Check

The chief of Atlantic City’s marketing drive, Liza Carmell earned a cool $400,000 in 2012 as she worked toward boosting New Jersey’s land gambling profits.Carmell manages the Atlantic City Alliance (ACA), a non-profit marketing agency that receives $30 million in annual funding from the AC land based casino operators in a partnership with the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority.Carmell defends her pay check to the Press of Atlantic City stating that it’s fair, equitable and in line with salaries paid to other CEOs.An additional $2 million was contributed by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority for the ACA’s project of creating a 3-D light show at Boardwalk Hall.The ACA expenses are attracting the attention of lawmakers. There are questions surrounding the priority of these expenses and whether the funding should be allotted elsewhere including Carmell’s salary.
